As alluded to in the first two blogs, many dental articles and blogs focus on the seriousness of taking care of your teeth.
But dentists and dentistry don’t have to be serious all the time. This is the final post in this three-part series dedicated to the FUN side of dentistry! The hope is…you’ve enjoyed them and discovered something fun along the way.
Did you know that…
In the early 1800s, the term “licensed dentist” was non-existent. In fact, the only reason people went to see someone was when a tooth hurt. The only cure for that was to get the tooth pulled! It could be anybody. But they had to have the right tools to pull a tooth.
Since there was no such thing as a “dentist”, people found that it was the BLACKSMITH or BARBER that had the right tools for the job. So, that’s who they went to mostly for this service.
You can find the History of Dentistry on the American Dental Association Website…if you’re interested in the exact dates…
Fortunately, times have changed. The need for dental care, other than just extracting teeth was obvious and dental care practice was born.
Thank goodness. How funny would it be if you went into your local barber and asked for a trim around the sides and while you’re at it…pull my left back molar? Yikes!
