A mouthguard is an important part of both good dental safety…and common sense. Children and adults should especially wear mouthguards when playing contact sports such as football, boxing, soccer, ice hockey, basketball, lacrosse, and field hockey. th
Mouth Guards Aren’t Just for Tough Sports!
But even if you’re in a sport where tackling, punching, or catching isn’t necessary, a mouth guard still should be used! Gymnastics, skateboarding, mountain biking…any sport which may result in pop in the mouth would benefit from wearing a protective mouth guard.
Adults and children who grind their teeth at night should have a nocturnal bite plate or bite splint made to prevent tooth damage.
An effective mouth guard should be comfortable, resist tears, be durable and easy to clean, and should not restrict your breathing or speech.
It’d be best to have a conversation with us regarding the impact of the sport that your child plays, the protection level needed, and for how long they’d be wearing it.
